Introduction

In this article we are going to discuss Hernia I/F Care Pack by Planet Ayurveda. This pack is especially formulated for management of Inguinal and Femoral Hernia. Hernia simply refers to when one of the organs pushes via a muscle or tissue that surrounds it. A femoral hernia occurs when a fragment of tissue pushes via the wall of the femoral canal. A femoral hernia is characterized by a bulge near the groin or thigh. The inguinal hernia is a hernia that develops in the abdomen close to the groin. When intestinal tissues push via an opening in the abdominal wall close to the right or left inguinal canal, it causes it to form. Each one inguinal canal is located at the bottom of the abdomen. Now further let’s discuss the causes and symptoms of both these Hernia!!

Causes Of Femoral And Inguinal Hernia

Causes of Femoral Hernia

Most of the time, the precise cause of femoral and other hernias is unknown. You could have been delivered with a weakened femoral canal area or the area may weaken over time. Straining may lead to muscle wall weakening and overstraining can be caused by a variety of factors, including:

  • Childbirth
  • Chronic constipation
  • Heavy lifting
  • Difficult urination as a result of enlarged prostate
  • Being overweight
  • Chronic coughing

Causes of Inguinal Hernia

This type of hernia has no single cause. Weak spots in the abdomen and groin muscles are thought to play a significant role. Extra pressure on this part of the body can lead to a hernia. Some risk factors can raise your chances of developing this condition. These are some examples, some of them are same as that of Femoral Hernia:

  • Heredity
  • A previous inguinal hernia
  • Premature birth
  • Being male
  • Obesity
  • Cystic fibrosis
  • Pregnancy
  • Chronic constipation
  • Chronic cough

Symptoms Of Femoral And Inguinal Hernia

Symptoms of Femoral Hernia

In some cases, you may be unaware that you have a femoral hernia. Minor and moderate-sized hernias rarely cause symptoms. A small femoral hernia may not even be visible in many cases. Large hernias may be more visible and cause discomfort. A bulge in the groin area near the top of your thigh may be visible. When you lift heavy objects, stand up or strain in any manner, the bulging may worsen and cause pain. Femoral hernias are frequently found close to the hip bone, causing hip pain.

Symptoms of inguinal Hernia

The most noticeable feature of inguinal hernias is their appearance. They cause pokes out along the pubic or groin area, which appear to expand when you cough or stand up. This hernia can be sensitive or painful to touch.

Symptoms Could Include

  • Pain while coughing, bending over and exercising
  • Sharp pain with burning sensation
  • Full or heavy sensation in the groin
  • Swelling of Scrotum in Men

Diagnosis Of Femoral And Inguinal Hernia

Your doctor begins with a physical examination to diagnose the problem. During this checkup, the doctor might feel a bulge in your abdomen or groin that increases in size when you stand, strain or cough. Your medical history will then be taken by your doctor. They can ask you a number of questions, such as:

  • When did you notice the bulge for the first time?
  • Have you had any additional symptoms?
  • Do you believe it was caused by anything in particular?
  • Is heavy lifting a part of your job?
  • Do you work out frequently?
  • Do you lift heavy objects professionally or for fun?
  • Do you have a smoking history?
  • Do you have a family or personal history of hernias?
  • Have you ever had any abdominal or groin surgery?

Your doctor will almost certainly use imaging tests to help them make a diagnosis such as Abdominal Ultrasound, Ct Scan, X-rays and MRI Scan.

Ayurvedic View Of Femoral And Inguinal Hernia

Concept of Hernia as per Ayurveda can be taken under the concept of Vriddhi, specifically Antra Vridhi. Before studying Antra Vriddhi let’s study what is Vriddhi? Vriddhi means to develop. This term has been used numerous times in Ayurveda and must be understood as per context and situation. Vata Vriddhi implies a pathological elevation of Vata, which can lead to a variety of neuromuscular, neurological, and degenerative diseases. Rakta Vriddhi denotes a pathological growth of blood tissue, which causes a variety of skin diseases, infections, bleeding disorders, gout, and other conditions. Medho Vrisshi denotes a pathological buildup of fat tissue, which results in the development of being overweight and weight-related medical conditions, among other things. When the term Vriddhi is used without a suffix or prefix, it refers to only one condition, Vrushna or Andkosha Vriddhi, which is scrotal swelling or Orchitis.

Causes of Vriddhi

The causes of Vriddhi are not discussed in the treatises. Charaka introduced vriddhi in the overall context of Shotha, the chapter on Swelling and its various forms. Thus, because Vriddhi is a kind of Shotha, all of the causes of Shotha should be regarded as Nidana of Vriddhi as well. As per Charaka Samhita – Chikitsa Sthana, Chapter 12, following are the causes of Shotha or Vriddhi: Excessive intake of Alkaline and Sour Foods, Intake of food items that are heavy to digest and hot in potency by those who have undergone medicated Emaciation and Medicated Purgation.

Other causes include excessive consumption of Curd, Unprocessed Foods, Green Vegetables and Contaminated Foods. After complication of piles and sedentary lifestyle.

Types Of Vriddhi

  1. Vataj Vriddhi
  2. Pittaj Vriddhi
  3. Kaphaj Vriddhi
  4. Shonita Vriddhi
  5. Medo Vriddhi
  6. Mutra Vriddhi
  7. Aantra Vriddhi

Hernia is correlated to Aantra Vriddhi, so let’s discuss more about Aantra Vriddhi. This type of Vriddhi is caused by vitiation of Vata Dosha and displacement of intestines from their place and then heading of them into groin, femoral opening or scrotum, forming a bulge and that bulge is denotes as Aantra Vriddhi or Hernia. According to Ashtang Hridya 11 chapter, following are the causes of Aantra Vriddhi:

  • Consumption of Vata vitiation food
  • Excessive swimming or bathing in cold water
  • Suppression of natural urges like urination, defecation, etc
  • Excessive weight lifting
  • Excessive walking
  • Consumption of incompatible food
  • Involvement in excessive physical activity
  • Provoking and irritating activities

Pathogenesis of Aantra Vriddhi

After exposure to the above causes, Vata dosha gets aggravated and leads to narrowing of some part of the intestines and making that part displaced from its place. Furthermore consumption of the same causes, vitiated Vata pushed that portion of intestines into the groin and caused swelling named as Aantra Vriddhi or hernia.

Symptoms associated with Aantra Vriddhi

Vankshana Shotha (Swelling in groin), Vrushna Vriddhi (Swelling in Scrotum), Aadhmana (distention of scrotum), Stambhana (Stiffness of Scrotum), Ruk (Pain in scrotum). In this case if Scrotum is pressed that intestinal part goes back into its own place but as the pressure released that part again bulges into the scrotum. The appearance of Scrotum is the same as that of air filled sac or bag and pain occurs without any reason. Now let’s discuss the management of Hernia provided by Planet Ayurveda.
