Inflammation is the background of all the major illnesses. It is the first symptom of all the illnesses and can lead to a more intense form. It has 4 symptoms which are redness (Rubor), calor (Heat), Pain (Dolar), Swelling (Tumor). According to ayurveda inflammation is known as shotha and it can be due to accumulation of all the three doshas or due to one dosha. Pain will be due to the vata dosha, heat and redness will be due to the pitta dosha and swelling will be due to the kapha dosha. Shothari mandoor is the best medication to treat the inflammation and the mandoor in it will help in detoxifying the impure blood.

Ingredients Used in Shothari Mandoor

All the ingredients in the shothari mandoor are mentioned below:

  4. Ardraka (Zingiber officinalis)

  9. Shunthi (Zingiber officinalis)
  10. Maricha (Piper nigrum)

Description Of The Ingredients

All the ingredients in it have certain medicinal properties which are mentioned below:

1. Mandoor Bhasma

It is helpful in the treatment of anemia as it helps in increasing the level of Hb in the body. It improves strength and immunity and helps in balancing the vata, pitta and kapha dosha from the body.

2. Nirgundi

Juice extract of the nirgundi is used for making the formulation. It is a great muscle relaxant and pain reliever. Helps in balancing the vata and kapha dosha also is hot in potency. It is light and dry in nature with a resultant taste conversion after digestion is pungent. It is antitoxic, shulahara (Relieves pain), vranahara (Heals wounds faster) and cleanses wounds faster.

3. Manakanda

It has a sweet taste which is heavy to digest, slimy in nature. Its resultant taste conversion after digestion is also sweet. Potency of mankanda is cold which helps in reducing the vitiated pitta and vata dosha. It is helpful in relieving swelling and bleeding and also the inflammation of the joints.

4. Ardraka

It has a pungent taste and is heavy to digest with dry and strong in nature. It undergoes sweet taste conversion after digestion and has hot potency. It is helpful in balancing the kapha dosha so it will reduce the swelling of the inflammation and due to the hot potency it will reduce the vata dosha which will help in reducing the pain of the inflammation.

5. Gomutra

It is hot and pungent in nature due to which it reaches deep tissues in the body. It helps in the treatment of abdominal colic pain, bloating and constipation, indigestion etc. It has a piercing nature and can be used in many skin conditions. It is also used for the external application mixed with other herbs to help in inflammation.

6. Haritaki

It helps in balancing all the three doshas in the body so it will relieve all the symptoms of the inflammation. Haritaki is cold in potency due to which it will relieve the heat produced due to the inflammation. It will relieve the obstruction due to the vitiated doshas in the body and is also known to relieve shvayathu (Edema and inflammation) of the body.

7. Vibhitaki

It is astringent in taste with dry and light to digest. Taste conversion after digestion is sweet and the potency of bibhitaki is hot. It has bhedanam quality which means it will ease motion and detoxifies the body. It detoxifies blood, lymph and muscles. It possesses antioxidant, antimicrobial properties, anticancer or antipyretic properties etc.

8. Amalaki

It has all the 5 tastes except salty taste, and the potency of the amalaki is cold. It has a rejuvenating effect on the body so it will help in rejuvenating the cells of the body and helps in healing the wounds. It helps in balancing all the 3 doshas of the body. It helps in clearing the obstruction of the body and also useful in treating skin disorders.

9. Shunthi

Dried form of the ardarak is used for the formulation. It has mostly the same qualities as of the ardrak, fresh ginger is not able to help in anulomana of the kapha dosha but dry ginger will be helpful in anulomana of kapha dosha. It is hot in potency but is oily in nature so can be used for a longer period of time. It acts deep in the tissues which helps in relieving swelling, pain in joints, stiffness, rheumatoid arthritis etc.

10. Maricha

Black pepper has a pungent taste and it is light to digest, with a strong and piercing nature. Maricha undergoes pungent taste conversion after digestion, due to the piercing in nature it will help in relieving the obstruction of the channels and relieve the inflammation. It is also helpful in detoxifying and will help in relieving digestion issues.

11. Pippali

It is helpful in treating indigestion, and respiratory tract disorders. It has a pungent taste with a sweet taste after digestion. Potency of the pippali is hot due to which it helps in balancing the vata and kapha dosha. It will relieve the swelling and inflammation, but it slightly increases the pitta dosha. It is also good for the treatment of skin diseases.

12. Chavya

It is also pungent in nature and also undergoes pungent taste conversion after digestion. It is hot in potency and will help in eliminating the vata and kapha dosha from the body. It is helpful in anorexia, relieves constipation. It will relieve the pain due to the inflammation and chronic poisoning. It is useful in anemia, jaundice and hepatitis etc.

13. Honey

Honey acts as a sweetening agent in this formulation. It helps in enhancing the taste of this formulation and also eliminates the kapha dosha and also cleans the minute channels of the body from any blockages. It has a lekhana karma due to which it helps in removing the dead tissues from the wounds.

Method Of Preparation

Following method of preparation is used for making this formulation:

  1. Firstly iron oxide calx is grounded with the juice extracts of the nirgundi, manakanda, ardaraka.
  2. It is than added with the cow’s urine and heated.
  3. In this mixture all the remaining powdered ingredients are added and then honey is added to the mixture at the end.

It is also helpful in the treatment of the bleeding disorders or any injury as it will relieve the inflammation quickly and the iron oxide calx will be helpful in making up for the loss of the blood.
