Moti Pishti

Introduction

Pearls are really beautiful. Women really love to wear pearls as jewelry. It is also used in auspicious procedures and worn for some auspicious purposes but according to ayurveda, Pearl is a really important component on earth not for making medications but also for beauty purposes. Acharyas have used pearl in a purified and processed form so that our body is able to digest it and absorb its benefits. A medication which is made from the pearl is mukta pishti.

Ingredients Used in Moti Pishti

1. Mukta Bhasma
2. Rose water

Description Of The Ingredients

• Mukta Bhasma: Mukta Bhasma is very cold in potency, sweet in taste. As this is the main content of the moti pishti due to which the medicine will be having all the properties related to the pearl calx. Due to cold potency and sweet taste it is aphrodisiac in nature, helps in igniting the digestive fire and as it helps in relieving the burning sensation of the body, nourishes and strengthens the body.
• Rose Water: Which is made by ark making procedure is used as it is in extract form. It is also coolant in nature, light to digest and it has sweet, bitter, astringent in taste also resultant taste conversion after digestion is sweet and helps in balancing all the doshas, strengthens the heart, aids digestion also.

Method Of Preparation

It is prepared by using the following method:

• Pearl is made into the calx form and by heating it in puut (Furnace).
• After that it is purified and than calx is mixed in mortar and pestle for 21 days with rose water.
• After that it is known as moti pishti and stored in a container.

Medicinal Properties

Medicinal properties means the way of action of it so the properties are mentioned below:

• It acts as an antacid as it is helpful in relieving acidity.
• It is anti-inflammatory as it works on inflammation and cures it.
• Relieves joint pains so acts as an anti-arthritic
• Due to bringing down the temperature of the body it is known as antipyretic.
• Anti-hypertensive as treats high blood pressure.
• Demulcent – soothes and calms the body.
• Anti-mutagenic – It helps in reducing the rate of mutation.
• It helps in reducing the Glucose levels so it is known as Hypo-gylycemic.
• Acts as a fat burner
• Helps in reducing the uric acid so Anti-gout
• Muscle relaxants – as it relaxes the muscles of the body
• Reduce the oxidative stress – so Antioxidant
• Calms down the brain
• Reduces depression
• Reduces or prevents convulsions

Dosha Karma

• It is sweet in taste
• Light to digest
• Potency is cold
• Vipaka is sweet (Resultant taste conversion after digestion)
• Helps in pacifying pitta and kapha dosha

Dosage

It should be taken in the dose of 60-125 mg and the maximum possible dosage which can be taken by the patient is 250 mg.

Classical Indication (R.T/ 23/ 72-74)

Classically it has been recommended in conditions such as:

• It can be used in psychological disorders or mental weakness like when a person is very aggressive without any major cause, not able to think, partial hearing loss or not able to listen clearly, feeling anxious in groups.
• Mental weakness due to the addiction of alcohol, datura, ganja, or other substances can be treated by this formulation.
• It is useful in treatment of unmada (Insanity).
• Rakta pitta (Bleeding disorders).
• Raktaatisaar (Diarrhea with blood).
• Raktapadar (Menorrhagia).

Indications

This medication can be used for treatment of many disorders related to the aggravation of the pitta dosha such as angry outburst, getting irritated for small matters, getting frustrated easily, disturbances in the sleep like insomnia, restlessness of the body, agitated mind, palpitations of the heart as it strengthens the heart, Person who cannot endure noises around him, Premature graying of the hairs, Burning sensation of the body. It can also be used for somatic symptom disorder, heartburn or acidity, gastritis etc.

Side Effects

It does not have any known side effects till now, But it should only be taken under the guidance of expert ayurvedic physicians.

Conclusion

As moti pishti is made from the pearl which is found in water so it has a cold potency and will be helpful in treating the disorders related to the pitta dosha due to the cold potency. It is also best for the treatment of the psychological disorders and hypertension which is induced by stress.
