Abstract

Durva Swaras is the extract of Cynodon Dactylon which is commonly known as Bermuda Grass which is helpful in various viral infections and in allergic conditions. Ayurveda is an ancient Indian medical system which is a natural system of medicine which originated 3000 years ago and is derived from the Sanskrit word Ayur (Life) and Veda (science). This grass is found throughout and is native to Asia, Europe, Australia and In Africa. It is also known as CrabGrass, Devil’s Grass. In Hinduism, it is worshipped to Lord Ganesha as it has been part of Hindu Rituals since Vedic Times and in the unique festival Durga Ashtami this day is dedicated to this grass. This Grass is fast-growing and tough whose rhizomes act as a diuretic and the juice is astringent in taste. Introduction

Durva grass blades are grey-green in colour and are short 2-15 cm in length with various rough edges. The stems of this grass are 1-30 cm tall and are tinged purple in colour and the seeds are produced in clusters with spikes together at the top of the stem. It is usually cultivated in warm climates all over the world, deep root system which penetrates the soil and it reproduces through seeds, Stolons and Rhizomes which begin at a temperature which is above 15 degrees in winter. This grass becomes brown. This grass is fully promoted by the sun and by full shade.
