Introduction

Chandanasav is a herbal formulation in liquid form. This classical formulation is used in the treatment of urinary disorders, reproductive disorders and diabetes. In this formulation Chandan is the main ingredient which has cold potency and is useful in pitta related problems and relieves excess body heat. This formulation contains 5-10% of self generated alcohol. This product improves digestion and increases appetite.

  2. Khus (Vetiveria zizanioides) – 1 part
  3. Nagarmotha (Cyperus rotundus) – 1 part
  4. Gambhari (Gmelina arborea) – 1 part
  5. Nelophar (Nymphaea stellata) – 1 part
  6. Priyangu (Callicarpa macrophylla) – 1 part
  7. Padhmakh (Prunus cerasoides) – 1 part
  8. Lodhra (Symplocos racemosa) – 1 part
  9. Manjishtha (Rubia cordifolia) – 1 part
  10. Rakta Chandan (Pterocarpus santalinus) – 1 part
  11. Parhal (Stereospermum suaveolens) – 1 part
  12. Chirata (Swertia chirata) – 1 part
  13. Barjata (Ficus bengalensis) – 1 part

Description Of The Ingredients

  1. Safed Chandan – Sandalwood possesses antimicrobial activity. It inhibits the growth of microbes and other infectious agents and eases symptoms like fever, pain and swelling. Chandan is also effective in enhancing libido.   
  2. Khus – This ingredient has demulcent and emollient properties and is valuable in treating urinary disorders and stomach problems. It improves constipation as it is rich in fibers. 
  3. Nagarmotha – It has potent diuretic, analgesic, anti-inflammatory properties. It is helpful in kidney stones and other urinary problems. It also possesses carminative and digestive properties hence useful in treating stomach problems.  
  4. Gambhari – It has many medicinal properties. It has been widely used as an antimicrobial, diuretic, anthelmintic and hepato-protective. It treats bacterial infections and is also helpful in urine retention. 
  5. Nelophar – This Ayurvedic herb is used in the treatment of excessive thirst, burning sensation, bleeding disorders, etc. It has cold potency and hence is useful in pacifying pitta dosha.   
  6. Priyangu – This is an Ayurvedic coolant herb used for the treatment of headache, diarrhea mixed with blood. It is also useful in the treatment of tumors, polydypsia, diarrhea, fever, etc.  
  7. Padhmakh – It is prescribed for the management of skin disease. This herb has pitta pacifying properties. It helps in promoting bone health also. It has a great role in treating painful conditions.   
  8. Lodhra – This ingredient has a role in reducing inflammation and swelling due to its anti-inflammatory properties. It also has antibacterial properties and is useful to fight infections.     
  9. Manjishtha – This herb prevents oxidative stress by scavenging the free radicals. It also avert the growth of the microorganisms. It is also beneficial in treating skin problems as it has blood purifying properties also.  
  10. Rakta Chandan – Red variety of sandalwood is used for treating digestive problems, fluid retention and cough. It also has blood purifying properties and is helpful in clearing the toxins from the body.  
  11. Parhal – This is rich in various antioxidants, vitamin A and C. This helps in boosting the immune system and keeps you away from various infections and infectious diseases such as cough, cold, etc.

  14. Pippali – This is an Indian long pepper plant and is useful in treating respiratory diseases like cough, cold, etc. It is also beneficial in indigestion, loss of appetite, stoamchache, heartburn, etc. 
  15. Kanchnaar – It is helpful in balancing the kapha dosha. This is rich in antioxidants and helpful in excreting the free radicals from the body. It helps in treating indigestion, cough, cancers, cysts, fibroids, etc.   
  16. Aam – This is a great source of magnesium and potassium. It is very helpful in electrolyte imbalance in the body. It can help stabilize your digestive system. This fruit is packed full of vitamins and antioxidants.    
  17. Kachoor – This is a useful herb to manage cough and cold symptoms. It has kapha pacifying properties and also helps to improve digestion and manages all the digestive problems. It has deepan and pachan properties.  
  18. Pitta Papda – This herb is used to manage the discomfort produced like itching, pain, or swelling due to its pitta pacifying properties. It is also helpful in burning sensation. It may also be used in liver obstruction.  
  19. Mulethi – This is a wonderful remedy for stomach ulcers and sore throat. It provides relief from burning sensation as it has coolant properties. This herb is mainly used in respiratory and digestive disorders. 
  20. Rasna – It is an effective herb for managing cough and cold due to its kapha pacifying properties. It reduces the inflammation in the body and also pacifies pain. It has renal protective properties also and is widely used in kidney diseases.
  21. Patol Patra – This herb has antipyretic, antioxidant, antibacterial, hepatoprotective properties. It protects the body from fever, infections, liver problems, etc. It is a good blood purifier.       
  22. Mochras – This is used to treat dysentery, tuberculosis, burning sensation, strangury, blood disorders, etc. Mochras are astringent in taste and cooling in nature. This herb pacifies the pitta dosha.  
  23. Munakka – Raisins are a rich source of antioxidants and helpful in eliminating the free radicals from the body. It also reduces weakness and fatigue and improves the vitality of the body.    
  24. Dhataki Pushpa – Dhataki is a main fermented herb in the preparation of Asava and Arishta. It pacifies Pitta dosha and is helpful in alleviating fever and other pittaj disorders. This is also beneficial in treating diarrhea, piles, dysentery, burning micturition, etc.  
  25. Gur – It has immense health benefits. Gurh cleanses the whole body and also provides relief from infections. It is also useful in improving digestion by promoting digestive fire. It also prevents constipation by aiding digestion. Due to its digestive properties it is widely used in abdominal and pelvic disorders.

Method Of Preparation

  • Take required quantity of water and add gur in the water.
  • This water is boiled and cooled.
  • After that, pour this water in the fermentation pot, vessel or barrel. 
  • Now make a fine powder of the above mentioned herbs and added in the fermentation pot.
  • Now the container is sealed and the edges are covered with clay-smeared cloth in seven consecutive layers.
  • Keep it aside in the fermentation room for 21 days.
  • After 21 days, filter the fermented liquid to eliminate the remaining impurities.
  • This filtered liquid aside for 8-10 days.
  • After 10 days again filter this mixture and poured in air-tight containers.
  • Use this Asava formulation after 1 year for better results.
