ABOUT ATOPIC DERMATITIS

The word Dermatitis means inflammation of the skin. Dermatitis may cause due to many reasons and can occur in many forms. It usually involves an itchy rash on swollen or reddened skin. Examples of dermatitis include atopic dermatitis, dandruff, rashes caused by contact with substances such as soaps, poison ivy or jewellery containing nickel in it. Atopic dermatitis is not contagious but this condition makes the person feel self-conscious as well as uncomfortable.

SYMPTOMS OF ATOPIC DERMATITIS

• Contact Dermatitis: It occurs when the body comes in contact with substances that either irritate the skin or cause allergic reaction such as poison ivy, essential oils or soaps. The red rash caused by contact may burn, itch, sting or blisters may develop.
• Seborrheic Dermatitis: The symptoms seborrheic dermatitis includes scaly patches, stubborn dandruff and red skin. This usually affects the oily areas of the body such as face, back and upper chest. It is condition of periods with remission and flare-ups.
