Neck Pain

Neck pain is a common consequence of aging. It may begin with a slight twinge on one or both sides of the neck or in the shoulder upon waking up in the morning, and often get worse as the day goes on. The pain may extend the arm to the hands and over time its effects gets worse and worse. One of the most common causes is the constant whirling, twisting, and bending of the neck, day after day and year after year. Sometimes contact between opposing surfaces in the spine may cause the development of small outgrows of bone, called osteophytes, or spurs.
