Euphrasia Officinalis is commonly known as Eyebright. Other names include Drug Eyebright, Eufragia, Euphrasia and common Eyebright. This plant is indigenous to North America, Europe, Northern and Western Asia. It is seen on chalky and moist soils, Alpine and sub-alpine meadows where it snows frequently.

CHARACTERISTICS OF EUPHRASIA OFFICINALIS
Eyebright is a herbaceous, creeping, semi-parasitic plant. It has branchy stems which are square and round pointed leaves. This plant flowers from July to September. Flowers have spots and stripes on the surface. They are white to purple in colour and small in size.
THERAPEUTIC POWERS OF EUPHRASIA OFFICINALIS
Eyebright has antibiotic, anti-inflammatory, astringent and antioxidant properties. As its name suggests, Eyebright is an efficient remedy for various types of eye problems. It has the capacity to tighten the mucous membrane surrounding the eyes, fights free radical damage and is very helpful in relieving allergic reactions and infections affecting eyes.
Ailments like blepharitis and conjunctivitis can be effectively relieved with Eyebright. The astringent properties of Eyebright are useful in reducing excessive mucous which is usually associated with sinusitis, colds, problems with upper respiratory tract and middle ear.
Stem and leaves of the plant are used in the preparation of the decoction, syrups and poultices. Eyebright is useful for relieving eczema, bronchitis, hay fever, chronic inflammation of mucous membrane, coughs, allergic rhinitis and stomachaches.
