Meaning: In this shloka, Master Charak has explained the guidelines for the treatment of diarrhea. Diarrhea can be treated after examining the causative factors, pacifying factors (upashaya) and the nature of aggravation of particular dosha. In the condition of diarrhea, the most aggravated dosha should be treated first followed by the treatment of other aggravated doshas.

USES OF INGREDIENTS OF DIARHO PLAN SYRUP
1. Bilva (Aegle marmelos):
Bilva fruit has many medicinal properties especially for digestive disorders. The fruit contains tannin which makes it very effective for dysentery and diarrhea. It also has anti-microbial properties which are helpful in intestinal infections such as diarrhea of infection origin. This fruit also has anti-inflammatory properties which helps in the management of inflammatory intestinal disorders such as colitis.
2. Dhanyaka (Coriandrum sativum)
Dhaniya is widely used in Indian kitchens. It improves digestion strength and acts as absorbent, useful in diarrhea and malabsorption syndrome. It is rich in borneol and linalool which helps in providing relief in diarrhoea and also prevents it.
3. Kutaz (Holarrhena antidysentrica)
Kutaz is an herb which is astringent in nature. It inhibits the growth of various bacteria because of its anti-microbial property. It absorbs moisture, therefore useful in diarrhea and dysentery and improves digestion. It is coolant in nature and relieves ama production (endotoxins).
4. Dadima (Punica granatum)
Pomegranates have been known hundreds of years for their multiple health benefits including diarrhea. Due to its anti-bacterial and astringent properties, it is useful in relieving diarrhea, IBS and ulcerative colitis. It is very light on stomach and undergoes digestion very easily.
5. Dhatki (Woodfordia fruticosa)
Dhataki is an herb which is astringent, light to digest, cold and pungent in nature. It is useful in excessive thirst, diarrhea, dysentery, bleeding disorders etc.
6. Avartani (Helicteres isora)
The fruits of Helicteres isora give an imagination about intestines. In Ayurveda it is said that: “Yatra Akrutihi Tatra Gunaaha Vasanti” which means if the part of the plant resembles the same organ, it is useful in treating disorders of that particular organ. Avartani is astringent, coolant, light to digest and useful in diarrhea, dysentery, abdominal colic pain, worm infestation and bleeding disorders.
7. Saunf (Foeniculum vulgare)
Spices are generally hot in nature but fennel is an exception to this rule. It is light to digest, sweet in taste, improves digestion and stimulates the digestive fire without aggravating Pitta dosha.
